This Backstrap Loom is hand-carved in Nottingham from pine wood, and the backstrap is made of a beautiful organic cotton from the Organic Textile Company in Wales, and sewn by Alexandra in London.

The loom consists of a weaving sword, three beams, two shed/heddle sticks and a backstrap.

Backstrap weaving is a practice that comes mainly from South America in places like Guatemala and Peru.

It's a unique way of making fabric that involves you as a weaver sitting in the loom itself to control the tension of the warp strings.

Alexandra is currently developing Backstrap Loom teaching videos where she adapts this ancient way of weaving to tapestry weaving. When purchasing this Loom Kit, you will have lifetime access to these videos. You will be emailed when they're ready!

Shipping

Shipping will be added to your purchase at checkout. I always make sure that I package pieces carefully to make sure that nothing gets damaged in transit.

Local pick up

If you're London based, I can hand deliver your piece at a time convenient to you. I'd love to have a chat and a cup of tea as well if you've got time! Just pick that option at checkout and I will email you to arrange.

I can't guarantee that you will avoid customs charges, but I'll do everything I can to make sure things go as smoothly as possible.

How do I take care of my piece?

Whatever you do, do not put your piece in the washing machine. The piece could lose its colour or could change its shape or felt. All my work is handwash only. For wall hangings, I would give it a little dust.
